The right way to start 2019

Happy New Year!

New Year, New Me? Two years ago, we spoke about the difficulty maintaining our New Year’s resolutions and discussed 5 handy tips to help stay on track.

Well It’s 2019 now and let’s expand on this topic as once again New Year’s resolutions start passing by our mind. Let’s start 2019 differently. We will not make unrealistic goals, we will succeed, we will not give up. Is your resolution to do with health, fitness and wellbeing? We have the 5 Tips for you.

  1. Treat yourself
TREAT YOURSELF! We can’t stress this enough! After putting in the hard yards you need to reward yourself for all that hard work. Now we don’t exactly mean that with a brownie… Rewards can come in all shapes and sizes. What about a relaxing remedial massage to work through all that muscle soreness after the gym? Or a pair of those gym shorts that you have been eyeing off? Whatever your reward may be, give it to yourself once you have hit a mini goal that you set. For example, you made it to 5km on your walk or you went to the gym 3 times a week all month. Once you have achieved that mini goal – TREAT YOURSELF!
  2. Try something new
TRY SOMETHING NEW! Don’t allow yourself to get bored from the same routine. If you’re finding your gym program or daily walk route a bit mundane, change it up! Take your walk to the beach or try a different form of exercise all together, you may find that you love it. Pilates is a fantastic form of exercise for strength, rehabilitation, balance, weight loss and more. Most importantly, its different! With the use of a trapeze, reformer and matt work you won’t be getting bored!

Hydrotherapy is also a great form of exercise, it’s not just a fantastic form of rehabilitation. Hydrotherapy allows you to challenge yourself during your workout, you can lower the water level or turn up the speed on the treadmill.

  3. Don’t give up if when you aren’t seeing changes
DON’T GIVE UP! - If you find that the changes are starting to slow down, whether that be on the scales or with your fitness level, don’t get discouraged! It might simply be time for a program upgrade, our Exercise Physiologists can upgrade your personalised program to suit your individual needs and goals. Keeping you on track and closer to your goal.
  4. Tell everyone your goals! (family and friends to help)
SPREAD THE WORD! – Tell the world your goals! Telling friends and family what your goals are can help for many reasons. We are often influenced by the people around us, if our friends and family know our goals, they can help to keep us on track. Instead of meeting up for a coffee and a cake, maybe a catch up with a nice long beach walk or taking a Pilates class together. Our friends and family are our number 1 supporters, let's give them the chance to support us.
  5. Get creative in the kitchen – don’t get bored with the same food
GET CREATIVE! – Do you get tired of the same chicken, rice and veggies that you have had for lunch over the past week? Change it up! You don’t need loads of time to make healthy, nutritious meals. If you are time poor, meal preparation is your best friend. Alternatively, leftover dinner makes for the best lunch. Have fun when shopping and cooking, try and make your meals as colourful as possible. Load up your usual spaghetti bolognese with a variety of veggies, this will help you to stay energised and feeling fuller for longer.
