Pilates
Fitness Pilates utilises specialised Pilates equipment including clinical reformers, thoracic barrel, Pilates fitball and wobble board. Fitness Pilates classes are instructed by our physiotherapists and exercise physiologists. Attendance to fitness Pilates classes assumes attendees are healthy people, without medical conditions limiting exercise participation, of all fitness levels. All of our equipment is state of the art variable resistance Pilates equipment which is why our programs are suitable for people of all fitness and strength levels. If you have medical conditions that may limit your participation in fitness classes, please see our section on Clinical Pilates to have a personalised program developed.
The benefits of our fitness Pilates classes are achieved through the performance of specific Pilates movements focusing on strengthening and lengthening the muscles at the same time to produce long, lean muscle with improved strength and tone. Just some of the benefits of fitness Pilates includes:
- Increased muscle strength and tone, particularly of your abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and buttock (the “core muscles” of your body).
- Improved posture – stand taller & sit straighter
- Improved stabilisation of your spine
- Overall body slimming and muscle toning (not bulking)
- Relaxation of your shoulders, neck and upper back
- Improved stress management, body awareness, concentration
Fitness Pilates Introduction
If you are inexperienced with fitness Pilates it is recommended that you first attend an introductory fitness Pilates session. Your 30-minute Introductory Fitness Pilates consultation is undertaken with a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist who will take a full history, a postural assessment, movement analysis, flexibility and core control assessment. Following this assessment you will be taught “the basics” of Pilates techniques to ensure safe and effective use of the Pilates equipment. You are welcome to attend as many introductory fitness Pilates sessions as you would like and they are able to be claimed through physiotherapy or exercise physiology on your private health fund.
Fitness Pilates Classes
Our fitness Pilates classes are a circuit type class using our specialised variable resistance Pilates equipment including reformers, fitball and mat exercises. Approximately half of each 50-minute session is reformer based and the remainder is spent on the thoracic barrel, Pilates fitballs, wobble board and mat based exercises. This results in an excellent whole body slimming, toning, lengthening and strengthening.
